25.11.18National Junior League - November 2018
Yesterday brought the second round of the National Junior League at Tonbridge Wells with Daniel coming in for Louis. After the promotion of two teams from the second division the league was much stronger seeing all our players losing their 100% records. (The stronger teams start in the second div to enable all the teams to play each other over the course of the series)
The standard was very high with last week’s Kent Junior Grand Prix tournament winner playing for Cleeve Park, the boys lost five games between them but remain unbeaten in matches winning four and drawing one making them winners for this round with Daniel topping the ratings. All the boys played extremely well against class opposition with some very close results and can be proud of their performances. Thank you once again to Andy Roberts for his coaching help and for looking after the team registration until my arrival.

National Junior League - October 2018
This weekend the Isle of Thanet League entered a junior team into the National Junior League at St Johns C of E School Royal Tunbridge Wells. The league meet four Saturdays over the winter with twelve teams comprising of two divisions, each team member plays ten games over the day. At the end of the first two meets there are two teams promoted and two teams relegated and on the third meet one team promoted and one team relegated, this leaves the final meet with league winners becoming champions.
The perceived weaker teams are put into the 1st division with the rationale that by the fourth meet the teams will be in the correct rankings and everyone will have played each other. Because the Isle of Thanet’s strengths were unknown we were put into the first division.
The Isle of Thanet’s team is made up of Hugo Ursell (captain), Daniel Wren, Jack Roberts and Louis Lines.
For the first meet we played with Hugo, Jack and Louis and had an almost perfect start dropping only one game and winning all our matches with the boys topping the player averages. Well done all the boys but I fear it will only get tougher as we go on.
Winning is great but I would just like to say how proud of the boys I am in the way they conducted themselves through a very long and tiring day, it was very quiet in the car on the way home apart from the purring (not from the engine). Thank you to Andy Roberts for his help with tactics and I hope he will be willing to do the same next time.
